20. Photo Charles Benson JOICE was born on 8 Aug 1854 in Deer River, Lewis County, New York. RLDS Baptized: South Boardman, Kalkaska County, Michigan on 8 May 1892. He died on 17 Feb 1905 in South Boardman, Kalkaska County, Michigan. He was buried on 19 Feb 1905 in South Boardman, Kalkaska County, Michigan. First Residence: Longlake,NY. Alice M Joice felt sad that her father ,Charles Benson Joice, had n after his death without even a stone to mark his grave. So in 1979 While visiting in Excelsior Springs with Norma L McCarroll a plan was made. A call to the RLDS Auditorium gave us the appointee in charge of that area. This led to calls to the clerk of South Boardman, Kalkaska Ct, MI and those in charge of the cemetary. Many calls later(in t sping of 1981) Norma had a conversation with a Mrs Baxter, the newly elected clerk. The books were old, the script dim and the names misspelled but Alice's memory gave the clues needed. Charles was spelled Chas with the "C" looking like an "L" and joice as spelled Joyce.

Alice remembered that there was a large stone for Mike Murphy just inside the gate on the right. She recalled that she stood with her back to Mike Murphy's stone as they lowered her father into the ground. When asked which was her father's head she replied immediately," It was toward the gate. And there are 4"X4" cement corner stones on the lot. The lot is between the Murphy stone and the gate." A;ice was 8 years old when her father died, 12 years when she left Michigan . She had visited once about 1960. At that time she found an old neighbor who told her, with tears in her eyes, that after the Joices left her little sister died and they buried her in the Joice plot.

Also buried in this plot were three os Alice's siblings, Clark, Alta Pearl and Harley, twin to Charley. Another baby was there also. the baby girl named Mabel of George and Alice Minthorn who later lived in Lamoni, Alice Minthorn and Alta Joice were sisters.
