John Russel (who was a graduate of Harvard College in 1645), June 28, 1649

John RUSSEL17 was born
in 1626 in England. He died on 10 Dec 1692 in Hadley, Connecticut.
The Rev. John Russel was born in England in 1626, and with his brother Pjilip,
was brought to New England by his father, Mr. John Russel, who settled in Weathersfield
in the Colony of Connecticut. After graduating at Harvard College, he remained
in Weathersfield, Conn., as pastor of a Churchh in that place, 'till avout 1659,
when, on account of troubles in his congregation, he removed to Hadley, Conn.,
as minister of the First Church of that place. The historian says, "It
was at the house of this good man, the 'Regicides' remained secreted for a long
time while in Hadley, and occupied the cellar of the house he lived in, to which
they descended through a trap-door in the floor, on approach of any stranger.
